Does anyone have a tried and true backup solution for d3 7.4 Linux? I'm looking for something that isn't a nightmare to configure.

I've been using a Tandberg SLR100 quarter inch drive for a couple of years, and
have been happy with it.

Were you looking for hardware or software? Full blown software or a couple
of simple scripts?

Also, would you consider off-site backups via the net or are you just
interested in tapes?

I forgot to add, I'm using the Lone-tar product from Cactus software
(www.lone-tar.com).

The Rescue Ranger feature can make a boot floppy with lone-tar, scsi tape
drivers, and raid drivers. It has a (text) menu based restore utility. I could
restore a working system from unpartitioned hard drives using nothing but that
floppy and a backup tape on my HP netserver LH4. I did restore the D3 partition
separately. There is a raw backup option in Lone-tar, but I don't want to shut
D3 down to get a good save, and pseudo saves restore quickly. I recommend
testing disaster recovery with your hardware if you will rely on it.

Actually I was looking for an 8 mm backup (Hardware) which would seamlessly work in a d3 7.4

I'm using a pair of 4mm External Sonys on my D3/AIX. They work better
than the internal 8mm that's still in it.
