Default Reading a vtf file - 05-15-2005 , 10:10 AM

I've got a vtf file (mvBase, I believe) that is supposedly a t-dump of
some programs, but I don't have the means to read it. Any suggestions
on how to parse through it to access the programs that've been t-dumped?
TIA.

Regards,
Joe

What variant of MV do you intend to read it back on?

Doesn't necessarily have to be read in MV - I just want to read it
with whatever means possible. However, to answer your question, if I
were to read it in MV, the variant would be Reality.

Joe

Joe,

I used to do this on reality several years ago to transfer data basck and
forth from mvBase to reality. Unfortunately, my memory fails me these days
and I can't remember the old Reality commands.

However, this is a topic that has been discussed several times in the past -
try looking through the following link for inspiration:

http://groups-beta.google.com/group/...tart=10&hl=en&

Ultimately, I know how to read an mvBASE vtf file in jBase and then copy to
a normal windows file (I presume this is Windows as mvBASE is windows only).

Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance.

Regards
Simon

Joe, your best bet is really to make arrangements with one of our many
trustworthy colleagues here, e-mail them the VTF, and ask them to send
you the code without looking at it. If you try to parse through a
tape manually on some other platform you're going to spend hours or
days doing it, but someone with a system right onsite can do it in
minutes.

Give yourself a break...

Is the .vtf file small enough to e-mail? I have an mvBase system that I
could read it into and output it in another form.

You can e-mail me at 2005email at btconnect.com if you need any help.

Steve

Sounds good to me, Tony. Any volunteers out there?
