Kevin,

Again, thank you for your concern. I completely understand your point.

The word Ban has specific meaning which doesn't apply to the jBase/T24
forum.

The T24 people are being asked to post their questions in another
group where they don't annoy the core audience, namely people who
joined a jBase DBMS group rather than a T24 application group. I've
been encouraging the change for years and I'm glad it was finally
made. An alternative might have been for jBase people to split off to
a forum named something other than "jbase", and for T24 people to
continue using the "jbase" forum when most of them don't recognize
that name at all. Obviously that solution is ridiculous.

As a forum member and not a manager, I was annoyed with having to
create a filter and taking manual steps to continually delete 90% of
what came into my inbox for that group. I was annoyed with having to
do something that I know (perhaps) hundreds of other people also have
to do. This is exactly the same situation with CDP, and part of the
reason for the creation of the new group.

Note that with U2, they also split off special interests like SB+ from
the rest of the U2 discussion. One could consider fragmentation of
forums to be a sign of success.

Here at cdp, there is an instance of the extreme opposite; there is a
software product that gets posted about here very infrequently that is
largely off-topic, but seems to only be used by pick users. {A google
search only finds postings for it here in cdp.} The maker of the software
has a discussion board on their web site, but posting there would on
the face of it leave you __really__ under the moderator's thumb
compared to posting here in an unmoderated group. [It is a terminal
emulator package with elaborate features for cut and paste, slave
printing, and file transfers.]

The name was my main interest. "MVDBMS" does not roll off the tongue. Choosing that name is not good marketing for the group over time IMHO.
Complete agreement and as unfortunate as losing a good domain name,
but the good ones seem to have been taken. (Like "pick" but you
really don't want to go there.) I can't find any information about
adopting dead groups, and Google is one of those "too big to
communicate" companies. I think we're stuck with it.

Thanks for all of your notes and interest here, Dawn!

It looks like Daniel Pearson created the group in 2004. *After doing
so he seemed to have lost interest. *Questions there are unanswered
and spam has never been removed despite the presence of some number of
managers. *All that's there are discussions about it being a dead
group.

I predict the gravagno group will end up as dead as that

Farewell, comp.databases.pick.

It was a good run, and I'll always
remember you fondly.
