The word Ban has specific meaning which doesn't apply to the jBase/T24 forum. The T24 people are being asked to post their questions in another group where they don't annoy the core audience, namely people who joined a jBase DBMS group rather than a T24 application group. I've been encouraging the change for years and I'm glad it was finally made. An alternative might have been for jBase people to split off to a forum named something other than "jbase", and for T24 people to continue using the "jbase" forum when most of them don't recognize that name at all. Obviously that solution is ridiculous. As a forum member and not a manager, I was annoyed with having to create a filter and taking manual steps to continually delete 90% of what came into my inbox for that group. I was annoyed with having to do something that I know (perhaps) hundreds of other people also have to do. This is exactly the same situation with CDP, and part of the reason for the creation of the new group. Note that with U2, they also split off special interests like SB+ from the rest of the U2 discussion. One could consider fragmentation of forums to be a sign of success. The name was my main interest. "MVDBMS" does not roll off the tongue. Choosing that name is not good marketing for the group over time IMHO. |
