I have done a lot of EDI and obviously D3, but when I saw the OP I
sent it to Dave Taylor at Sysmark Information Systems. He is also in
Southern California here and he and his software specialize in EDI.
As a tool builder my approach to EDI these days would be to write or
interface with a general purpose GUI mapping tool to generate/parse
any X12, EDIFACT, or HL7 document, and use an MV or relational
back-end as the source or target for data and rules. Then I'd
interface that with some of the popular EDI communications/validation
packages. This is obviously more extensive than what most end-users
would want, but a VAR could resell this to larger sites.
