I highly recommend anything by Charles Stross. A superb modern sci-fi
writer with one foot in HP Lovecraftian eldritch horror and the other
in Machiavellian espionage a la John Le Carre. All of which is imbued
with a wicked sense of humour and driven by a cutting-edge knowledge
of computing and related technologies. Start with the compendium "On
Her Majesty's Occult Service" since it contains 2 full novels ("The
Atrocity Archives" and "The Jennifer Morgue"), a few short-stories and
a couple of interesting essays on the relationship between dark horror
and super-power espionage/conspiracy thrillers. [2 thumbs up]
