Like any medium, the benefits or otherwise of TV programmes and computer
games depends upon their design and content. I can remember playing C64
computer games when I was not much older than your boys that were
designed for developing mental arithmetic skills, but were still fun.
I'm in no doubt that computer games have helped my 3yo to develop her
number and letter recognition, as well as her problem solving ability.
I'm also in no doubt that watching CBeebies (a BBC TV channel aimed at
pre-school children, and the only channel that my kids watch) has
provided her with a wealth of general knowledge and useful information
about personal interactions.

Don't get me started on video games & Internet for children. I'll

I love the fact that I can describe something to my daughter and then
find pictures or videos on www to help clarify my explanations. The
internet, used wisely, is an enormously useful educational tool.
One challenge that I face before my kids reach the ages of your kids is
to teach them to use the internet wisely...
