Ed, Just a guess, but probably because you can sel-restore from files that have multiple data sections, perhaps it's merely asking: Which Dict? Which File within that Dict? Usually the answer is the same, but once in a while it's not and the mvBase process may not like filename, subfile construct as a reply. What's the exact sequence of questions? Account name on tape : Dictionary name on tape : File name on tape : Not sure what is wanted for dictionary name. Ed Mark Brown "Ed Sheehan" <NOedsS... (AT) xmission (DOT) com> wrote in message news:f08egk$hgr$1 (AT) news (DOT) xmission.com... Went there for a quick mvBase answer and the whole ftp site is now "under constuction." Anyone on the inside know when it'll be back up? My mvbase question is this. It's been a LONG time since I did tape ops on an mvBase system. I'm sel-restoring a file and it's asking for the dictionary name. I'm used to entering the account name and file name. If I needed a dict, I'd sel-restore DICT filename and it'd know what to do. Why is the dict name necessary? Thanks, Ed- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - |

I just d/l'd firefox and it still gives a not-found error. When I typed in ftp://ftp.rainingdata.com/, it came back with "under construction." Which browser are you using? I'll get it and try again... Yes, mvBase is just like D3, except when it's not. I also need to increase the size of the blob since the client is down to about 1% left, so I need those docs bad. If you or anyone knows of a browser that can hook up to the ftp site (I've tried IE and Fireox), please let me know. Thanks, Ed |

"Mark Brown" <mbr... (AT) drexelmgt (DOT) com> wrote in message news:4627eb72$0$4931$4c368faf (AT) roadrunner (DOT) com... Ed, They want either the same name as the dict name, or null. Example: sel-restore myfile itemx account name on tape: *acctname* Dictionary name on tape: myfile File name on tape: myfile It's possible you can just hit return at the filename prompt and one of two things will happen: 1) it will assume with no data name that they are the same and you want data from the "myfile" file; or 2) it will assume you are restoring from the dictionary portion of the file. I think it does number 2) (!) because it takes off when I press enter there. So I duped the filename for both dict and data and it found the items I needed (it allows a select-list to be active.) It appears to be just a syntactical difference from D3. Yes, mvBase is just like D3, except when it's not. Wasn't mvBase the product RD bought from GA? Alike but not the same? Mark Brown "Ed Sheehan" wrote: What's the exact sequence of questions? Why don't you just use http:?? Go to: http://www.rainingdata.com/support/d...mvb/index.html You don't need to ftp the docs Cheers, Brian Ed Sheehan wrote: Yes, mvBase is just like D3, except when it's not.
