Default RAN 16 port serial (DIGI equiv) - 07-31-2006 , 11:33 AM

Yep, this is a noob question, but it's been a while since I had to deal
with DIGI/IBM RAN serial nodes (I worked in UniVerse prior to this gig
and mvBase before that and...well, you know!).

Server: IBM eServer p5
OS: AIX 5.2
MV Environment: D3

Problem: I've got a bunch of screwed up serial ports. The dumb
terminals are, of course (because there haven't been any changes over
the weekend and they were all working Friday), set to the right baud,
stop bits and parity and so are the serial lines, yet the terminals
only responds with garbage, usually symptomatic of wrong serial
settings. Something happened over the weekend!

Question: Is it possible to reset the 16 port node without rebooting D3
or AIX?

TIA

-Bruce H

Donno what your problem might be, but I'd try different baud rates on the
terminal end. I'd start at 9600 baud 'cause that tends to be the default.

If you don't find success at any of the standard baud rates, then pray for
an inspiration.

hth,

Dale

I did that. I used diag with the IBM supplied loop back plug. The AIX and
RAN side all checked out.

..
..

What I didn't do is remember that there are multiplexors between the server
room and the warehouse! Heckuvan oversight! I've been at this particular
company almost a year and n-e-v-e-r had to deal with the mux's...and so "out
of sight, out of mind"...so much so that I even neglected to mention their
presence when I made my OP!

Anyway, resetting the mux's solved the problem...and reddened my face in
embarrassment!

*sigh*
