If it's not too intrusive, just looking to see what software houses (to use the term loosely) use to run their own business. In no particular order, criteria includes sales, quotes, leads, projects, version control, maintenance, billing, client follow-up, forecasting, budgeting, issue/bug tracking, employee workload/performance tracking, etc. Do you roll your own? Buy off the shelf? Run multiple apps? If so, do they talk to each other or not? Do you have people manually performing tasks that your system(s) can't handle? How satisfied are you with the system(s) that run your business? What do you love/hate about your system(s)? What percentage of your budget goes towards keeping your system(s) current? Etc. Apologies if this offends anyone - it's not meant to. Just looking to see how automated some houses are and how happy they are with their system(s). Thanks in advance. Regards, Joe |

I'm eagerly awaiting TG's "I don't get paid to do your market research" reply... should be good! |

I'd guess most people eat their own dog food, so to speak, or they use something like Quickbooks if their own software is too vertical for the computer business. Smaller shops probably just use paper and pencil - it's less cost and aggravation than these danged computhingies... T |

You nailed it Tony, as usual. I actually have two businesses. For the software business I use Quickbooks. For the e-commerce business I use our Foresite software. The big difference of course is the inventory management. Thanks for proving my point! Many of the people in this forum are my friends or clients, frequently both. John and Jeff are no exception. Yes, exchanges here are often quite congenial, with a good mix of back patting, ribbing, and the occasional full out brawl that friends and colleagues are bound to have. And yes many of us do get together for food and drink when we get a chance - there are people in this forum who I see much more often than some in my own family. Call it smugness, I call it a close community. Based on the lack of gratitude you've shown for the responses |

received to your inquiry, I'd guess you won't be getting much more input for your survey. Antoine Le Smug |
