Default Putting the case for generic subroutines (or modules) - 10-10-2005 , 09:17 PM

Hi

There are some things that have become second nature to me over the
years. One of these is my penchant for generic subroutines. Their use
has proved valuable many times over.

The point of the post is to ask if any of you have seen a good example
of the case being made in print. I'm preparing a presentation and,
although I know it's a really good idea, I'm struggling to find the
words to make the case with anything like the conviction I feel.

Words that come to mind are : extensibility, standardisation,
reliability, simplicity...

Any links or quotes would be helpful.

Cheers
Mike.

You could probably find good reasons for a lot of methods in the book
"Code Complete" by Steve McConnell.

No developer should be without this book, and the 2nd edition is out
now too.
