Thanks.

Alberto,

You have a number of options, including exposing your database via ODBC
and using something like Crystal Reports.

There are also some more "native" solutions, like our
Visage.ReportServer, which will operate with your existing files in a
"raw" form (you WILL need to have reasonable dictionaries)

Visage.ReportServer runs as a service on a Windows XP or Server
machine, which simply has to be on the network "somewhere" so that
it can talk to your D3 database (it can even be on the same machine if
you run D3/Windows)

Reports are designed using the Visage.ReportDesigner, which has a
simple Drag'n'Drop interface that 'knows' about multi-value
file structures, and how to translate between multiple files etc, so
you are really just working with a visual representation of your
existing dictionaries.

You have access to all of the "basic" formatting capabilities you
should expect (fonts etc), and if your existing (or new!) files have
references to images, these can also be included on your reports if
appropriate.

Once your reports are designed, a single basic CALL can send a report
to any printer supported by windows, and/or generate a report in a
number of formats for electronic distribution and storage (PDF, HTML,
Excel etc),and/or fax the report/form, and/or email the report or form
(you can elect to send HTML emails if you like to avoid the need for
recipients to "open" an attachment)

Like all of the Visage product suite, the Visage.Faxer and Emailer
products can also be used "stand alone", and can be easily
retro-fitted with "legacy" applications [e.g. reports produced by a
program or Access statement], to enhance your delivery options.

Alberto:

¿Que es lo que necesitas? ¿Que ideas tienes? ¿Que software tienes?
¿Que tipo de informes?. Hay muchas soluciones, Crystal Reports, ODBC,
XML, PDF, PCL. Cada una es buena para lo que es, siempre depende de lo
que se quiera obtener.

Un saludo

Unfortunately I'm not in Spain, I'm in Italy.
Anyway, I think I understand that you're asking me what are my needs, which
ideas I have, which software I have, which type of information.
I'm looking for a tool that lets me design my reports, possibly using a
graphical tool or maybe something like Word, and than need to populate this
form with data coming from my D3/Windows application, possibly using
different fonts and colours. PDF would be ok.
Thank you for your reply.

Alberto,

As you have mentioned "Word", you might also want to consider our
WordLynx product, though we have traditionally used thisfor "forms"
production. Just follow the links from www.stamina.com.au, and you can
download manuals &a trial version of the software,

There's a how-to for on-the-fly PDF creation under
FlashCONNECT on PickSource. You can use the same tools and
steps to generate the PDF files and then launch them with
any DOS command/file transfer capable terminal emulator.
I've been generating PDF reports for years now under Linux
using Ghostscript. If you want something cross platform and
easy to implement, then use HTML. Check out the MVWWW
project on MV Developer Central. There's a couple of token
routines that you can rip out and use for filling in data on
HTML templates. Download the D3 t-dump and follow the
instructions to install the BP stuff. You can design the
HTML template in any wysiwyg, insert tokens where you need
the data, and then process the template using the token
routines. If you need help rewriting the BP tools, let me
know.

Do you mean that I can use such tools also from within a D3 application,
without FC ?
