Default print wizard - 07-12-2006 , 12:55 PM

Hi all,

I did talk to Bom R. at Anzio about Print Wizard. I can use it and the
overlay for the invoice forms prints fine. The only issue is I have to
run the printouts to a file then invoke the printwizard command with the
overlay extensions via an execute command (to run the printwiz windows
program).

I was wondering if someone else out there is using Jbase and print
wizard and has come up with a way to somehow add the print wizard job
commands to the print file and just spool it? Sort of like setting up a
windows printer with a preprocessor call to the printwizard program?
This woudl eliminate having to send the print job to a file and then
print it as a seperate step.

Richard

Sorry I can't help you with that one.

Active Fax also works as a printer server. We use Active Fax to print
documents with overlays in a one step process.

Umm...

Bob R.?

I'm not really all that clear on how you set your form queue(s) to output data from a windows implementation of D3, or even if you have a windows implementation of D3 with networking software enabled - but I'm sure you have probably raised a few eyebrows among some of the more scurrilous people who lurk in this forum regarding why you might entertain the notion of changing whole multivalue environments in order to print letter quality invoices around a string of syntax.

I suspect you might be in a hurry or something.

If you are in a hurry, i suggest you take your time and not buy a bill of goods, but rather hire a reputable consultant. One with a memory and a lot of experience and valid, trustworthy contacts.

You have my email address and I would happy to give you my advice free of charge.

Just my two cents...

And i'm still as dry as a dead dingo's donger.

First it was Bob Rasmusson (not Bom R, type sorry).

Second I am not changing any enviromnent or database. I am on
Jbase/windows 3.4.x and it works just fine for all I do.

I am not trying to get letter quality invoices. I am trying to get an
overlay ncluding a fair amount of graphics on a plain sheet of paper
including headers, line graphics, shadowing, etc which can be easily
done as an overlay in Print Wizard. Then I plan on printing the data
just like any pre-printed form.

The problem is jbase, and D3, and MvBase, so far as I can find can only
do this if I output the print data as a text file that I can call and
inoke by a execute call to windows adding the overlay information to the
execute.

I am trying to see if there is a way to do this without re-writing the
print routines to be file routines and have the form and data print
together.

Richard, for the record, there is a solution for what you describe.
The software takes one or more existing reports and allows you to
signficantly reformat and aggregate them with no code changes to the
back-end at all - the result can be formatted with dynamic images,
lines, grids, etc, and header / detail / footing page templates. You
can even combine reports from different environments, like transaction
data from any MV system, history from an Oracle data warehouse, or BI
data from MITS or other non-MV products.

The GUI for mapping the new reports allows you to drag/select text
from a sample report and use that as a template. Those blocks of text
are then assembled however you want them in new reports. Calculations
can be performed on individual selected fields or blocks of run-time
data. For example, what if you have a report and no source code and
it doesn't generate subtotals? This software allows you to specify
the data/column(s) that should be used for the calcs and then it does
the data bucketing and sub-totalling at run-time. As mentioned above
you can take transactional data from different reports generated by
different systems, and aggregate that data with combined totals.

This is made for corporate environments and higher-end shops that do a
lot of intensive reporting and distribution (stock holders, members,
multi-company management, etc. For these environments it also allows
control over the larger Xerox printers which do collating, sorting,
stapling, binding, etc., and facilitates distribution of assembled
reports via mail, Email, Fax, etc..

Obviously software like this has a "corporate" cost as well.

So, what you want exists but I don't think it's what you're looking
for.

If you or anyone else _is_ interested, please email.

Regards,
T
