you have ibm (universe), then IBM (univision) - I presume you mean
IBM(u2) and EDP(Univision) ??

I did vote for OpenQM, if growth is defined as annual % increase in seats.

I voted for them in any event. As I see it, they're likely to take quite
a few sites from the others, and I daresay U2 and D3 probably aren't
growing at present anyway. Shrinking, more likely.

I voted for them too. I'm not sure about U2 shrinking so much. They just
put Unidata System in at one of the local Universities. The DataFlo
system is new, and they were looking for IT employees to support it.

If you read Spectrum this month, Reality just installed a big system at
the local Doc-in-a-Box, (Patient First). The Reality is an upgrade to
another MV database, (Heck it could have been Microdata).

Patrick, <;=)

P.S. Of course Richond Virginia has always been a hotbed for MV. <g>

Well in percentage growth terms, Cache has got to be the winner! Coming
from a zero base makes the percentages high.

Simon

The U2 business unit at IBM had something like a 22% growth last year,
beating all other IBM databases - there is some really good stuff
coming from them at the moment, both technologically and marketing
wise.

I wasn't sure whether to vote in terms of % increase in profit, dollar
increase in profit, number of seats, or number of users using the
product. My answer is not the same in all of these. I opted to answer
based on dollar increase in profit.

IBM is definitely growing, but not necessarily the way all might like.
They grow as their VARS grow. U2 has the most large VARs of any of the
products. The VARs license more product and U2 grows. I argued with a
U2 employee on this matter, pointing out how important it was to also
grow by developing more VARs. I don't know that IBM has really picked
up on that vision much.

Just my two cents. --dawn

After what I saw yesterday at the DesignBais webcast demo, my opinion is
that DB just might save all of the MV vendors.
Using DB to build the DB components was what really got my attention.
Only a very sophisticated product can do that.
They still have a ways to go with their deployment process and some other
minor stuff, but they are pushing the envelope.
It's just my opinion but - how fast they can sell the product and how well
they evolve the product based on customer feedback will determine their
success. I've got good feelings about them - so far.
It is definitely worthy of another look. I just wish there was a "real life"
demo somewhere to show the clients.

OpenQM still doesn't have an internal ODBC service that you can just pop
in a driver and start using. I think that needs to be addressed in order to
really compete against the rest of the group.
We have only ever had one request for ODBC from a commercial user and
that was for a four seat system - hardly encouraging to spend vast
amounts of money to do the job. The user concerned found that he could
use QMClient from inside Excel and do the same job much faster anyway.
