I wouldn't say "just" beer. I've only encountered a few that I didn't
like...

Boy that brings back memories. My first 'Pick' (Reality 2.2) job back
in the mid 70's was working on GL/AP/AR/etc for (among others) hopitals
at D.E. McMullen in Toronto. Oakville-Trafalgar and Toronto General
where the first two installs, IIRC. 30 years ago!

Well, the office in London will be closed by the end of this year, and most
of the people there will be on to bigger (and hopefully better) things. I
worked in the London office on a payroll system for hospitals. That system
was officially sunset at the end of March (in reality, there's not supposed
to be any customers left on it by the end of June, I believe). There is
also a related GL/AP/AR group of modules that is developed out of the
Toronto office, but it's on its last legs too. I think there may be two
people left in Toronto working on that (also UniVerse).

I have no idea what direction the company is taking now, but they seem to be
getting out of the payroll business. I tried convincing them that the
uniVerse system they had was better than anything else on the market (and
all of the clients would have agreed); all it needed was a GUI, and I even
started working on that on my own time, but, alas, to no avail.

Anyway, now that my bitterness has somewhat subsided, (and my severance is
almost run out), it's time to start looking for new work. As mentioned, I'm
in London, and there is pretty much nothing in the PICK market down this
way. But thanks for Ted's contact info - I'll give him a call this week.

Ted Nixon is a recruiter working in the GTA. He has placed most of us at
one time or another.
His website is at www.technix.ca and his email is tnixon at that domain.
Are you in the GTA? I am guessing not as your company would have been
able to find Pick people no problem. Are you willing to name that company
that "gave up on Pick"?

Thank you muchly, but who is Ted Nixon and how do I get in touch with
him?

PS - Anyone know of any companies in SW Ontario looking for a PICK
programmer???

Dave - get in touch with Ted Nixon. I believe he is trying to fill a
Pick position right now.

Toronto General had gone on to other vendors by the time I started, but
Oakville-Trafalgar was one of our payroll clients. I'm betting D.E.
McMullen probably got bought out by either SMS or IST, (I forget which came
first), but after those two companies, MediSolution bought the system, and
had it since (roughly) about 1990. I came on board in 2001, and now it's
history, although I do still support one client out in Saskatchewan on my
own. Couldn't convince any of the others to go with me when I left.

Some of the other long-time hospitals we had were Sisters of Charity in
Ottawa, Grand River in Kitchener, and St. Mary's of the Lake (Providence) in
Kingston. Any of those ring any bells for you?

No I left after TGH in 1977. McMullen at that time was doing all sort
of systems and when TGH came along figured (I guess) that this was a
vertical worth doing. But the payroll at OT was the first real project
I worked on. World is small
