Tony.
I don't think I would go into a trouble of writing this software to
cause some damage to the Pick community.

Are you serious?

My intent was to give you free software which I had fun writing.
Didn't know I had to give my resume to the community for this.

If you are so suspicious, don't use it or download it.

Is it strange to charge for a product? Can you direct me to software
for pick you have written which is for free?

Though it is strange, that it was necessary to pay money for such
product .

Hi Douglas,
This program was written with C# and runs on .Net platform. If you
don't have .Net framework installed on your computer it won't even
install.
To connect to D3 server I used D3 ODBC component because it's free.
Just download it from RD site and install on your XP box. It will
install D3CLODBC library which is used by this program.

I'm downloading it right now. I'm not worried. I have enough registry
monitors, and numerous other utilities running on my XP box, that I can
detect and destroy anything that starts acting fishy.

It looks like a good, fun product. It might be better if this
discussion centered on the .net program and the D3 odbc library needed
to run the program. I'm not sure how or where to install these.

from the readme....

Please check carefully that you have the required software installed to
run Pick Query.

- Windows XP/2000
- Microsoft .NET Framework Version 1.1
http://msdn.microsoft.com/netframewo.../framework1_1/
- D3 ODBC Library
ftp://ftp.rainingdata.com/pub/ODBC/2...leases/C27.exe

If no one raised the question, consider the uproar in this community
if this were the first Pick trojan. People can agree or disagree, I
just like to give people a little more to think about before they make
their decisions.

Unfortunately I've never heard of you and I was wondering if anyone
else has. With respect for Grigory, his "clean software" stamp of
approval isn't good enough for me. He doesn't know you, he just
loaded your software on his system and he thinks it's safe. That's
opinion, not verification.

I don't want your resume, but there's a lot of room for getting to
know you between not having any idea who you are and reading your life
history. Cut me/us a little slack and forgive a little normal
suspicion. For all I know you're Dan Fisher just coming up with a new
way to take his anger out on the world. I doubt it (and I actually
verified that before posting my first note to this thread), but the
point is that we simply don't know.

Welcome to the community, thank you for the free software, sorry if
I've offended you, and all of that. But I sincerely hope you'd be
cautious too if someone you've never heard of suddenly posted software
for everyone to download and said "hey everyone, try it, it's great
and it's free". Sorry, but most internet users learn to avoid such
things very quickly. The lure of something familiar here is just
enough for me to re-caution people to take the same precautions they
would otherwise.

If you open source your code then none of this would be an issue, as
people could just compile their own executables from source.
(Honestly, most of us know that most people will simply install open
source code from binaries anyway and don't really care about the
source code, open or not.) I'm not asking for open source, just
looking for a way to get your generous offering to the audience you
want until we get a chance to know you better.

Regards,
Tony

I think it would be better if you or anyone else send me an email and
ask a few questions first before making comments like this. The web
site actually has my company details from which anyone can find out
very easily who they are dealing with.

Just re-usable odds & sods, but this lot (http://www.courtfields.com/mv)
has been around for years.

That, dear heart, is at the very core of the confidence trick. Being
cautious is only sensible.

It helps to have some point of reference to establish a safe degree of
credibility. No-one has cause to distrust you specifically and
individually, but caution is only wise in these days when strange
people write malicious code for no apparent reason other than self-
gratification.

Web sites are 10 a penny. It is all too easy to create a bogus web
site trading on the details of a genuine company. There was a site
which lifted some of my details for their web site, until I became
aware of it and challenged them (at which they claimed it was all my
fault and I'd hacked their site for publicity).

It is perfectly reasonable to raise the question on this forum which is
populated by many people with long standing, and represents an interested
community.

Hello Peter,

I did not want to offend You. I am sorry.
Small part of that I made you can see here :
http://infotools.ru/freeware/freeware_briz.htm
http://infotools.ru/freeware/freeware_pb.htm
http://infotools.ru/products/BRIZ/briz_download.htm

BRIZ - free for use with any freeware, OpenQM and for all developers.
(BRIZ is 6Mb of C++ source and 1Mb in DataBasic. It is enough? )

Write to me g v p @infotools.ru . I think we shall find common language
and we shall exchange opinions (hope).
Especially Your some decisions have liked me (but ODBC and MV are not
friends).

Best regards,

Grigory

There are plenty of tools (some are for free) you can use to check the
software for viruses etc. So use it.
