Default Pick based ERP systems - 10-18-2006 , 01:34 PM

Just curious - out of all the ERP packages out there, are there any
largish ones that are Pick based?

John

In short, yes. The question becomes "what is ERP"? In today's world
where the enterprise is much more than the standard GAAP, inventory,
and distribution, the old ERP-scale MV apps may pale in comparison to
some of the modern offerings. These days ERP packages include
import/export of XML standard docs and/or EDI, Web Services, and
sophisticated forecasting. Then again, most companies don't need the
enterprise-scale detail of SAP and others, and we've never had a hold
in that end of the market anyway. So for most SMB-to-large(ish)
companies, it's very possible that a completely satisfactory solution
can still be found in the MV market. That said, I'm afraid most of
the shops that created this sort of MV software have probably faded or
gone away.

Hope that makes sense.

Datatel, my former employer, has one of the best-selling ERP solutions
for higher ed. The web site says they have more than 725 colleges and
universities in North America that use it as their ERP.

May be i have a different point of view. In spain there are a few ERP
based in PIck but all of them are propietary software of the company,
not an ERP that people sells. Well if we consider Cache one of the
biggest spanish companies sell an ERP based in Cache but for me it is
not Pick, they have sell it in cache for years and cache is mv in the
last 12 months.

But what i have been doing, and continue doing now, is to install Pick
Based software, integrating with ERPs (SAP, Navision, Oracle
Financials,....) that solve a part of the bussines necesities of
companies that ERPS do not solve. I think ERP is something of last
century. Today there are there but Pick software may be in a very good
position solving problems that ERP cannot afford. And sending
information to ERP. Pick solves a "day to day" problem. Real problems.
ERP solve "companies strategies". There is a BIG market giving an added
value to ERPs.

This is what i think in the spanish market.

Hi All

Having worked for the developers and users of two of the largest MV
based apps for the majority of my 20yr career I can say that neither
they nor there competitors have faded away.

These two companies have an installed base of hundreds of customers
both in Australia and overseas... UK, US and Asia Pacific mainly.

I currently work with Uniware the developers of AusVantage... A fully
integrated "ERP" system with a C# .NET front end. The link below will
give you more info' -

www.uniware.com.au

Hope that helps...

Rgds

This is the first time I have posted on the google comp databases pick
so I'm not sure if the formatting is what is required.
After answering "YES" to the question, you really didn't provide any
answers.
I believe that the system sold by Stamina (Ross Ferris) might qualify
and IES from Infolab.cu in South Africa would also qualify. I would
state however that neither would be in the scale of SAP.

Which reminds me that there is also plumbing warehouse distribution
(maybe not just for plumbing warehouses, but that is where I have seen
ut) from Intuit called Eclipse. www.eclipseinc.com

I think that also qualifies as an ERP. --dawn

Intuit Eclipse has a comprehensive PHCP (Plumbing, Heating, Cooling, Piping)
suite and has branched out into other general distribution functionality as
well. With some of the largest supply customers in the country, they're at
the top of the competition IMO (I was with them for 14 months).

This handfull of folks has come up with 4 ERP solutions that are sold
as packaged solutions, based on MV databases, with indications of
additional custom ERPs (Nebraska Furniture Mart would fit in that
category, for example).

So, I'm just curious -- why did you ask, John? Was the response
helpful? Are you trying to justify moving to or from a Pick-based ERP,
for example? Thanks. --dawn
