Default Personal Editions: SB+ and Unidata - 01-15-2007 , 10:51 AM

One of my ex-trainees has downloaded the Personal Editions of Unidata
and SB+

Both installed OK and Unidata works nicely, but when logging to SB she
can get as far as the terminal-definition prompt and all of the
definitions which she has tried seem to fail either by rejecting it
because it is the PE of SB+ or just displaying gibberish.

Does anyone know which is the correct terminal-definition in order to
use SB+ on Unidata in these circumstances.

Thanks

Malcolm Bull

Try default.term. Use <CTRL>+F num to do function keys. I think it's
<CTRL>+J for left; <CTRL>+K for up; <CTRL>+L for right and <CTRL>+M for
down. Enter "/KEYS" when at the SBDemo menu to get the key combinations.

OK. I finally loaded my copy of SB+_pe and logged to the SB account using
the udt process, udt telnet, and MS telnet. Default.term worked fine with
all of them. Here is the /keys output:

Action Key
Cursor Back Ctrl-K
Cursor Forward Ctrl-L
Cursor Up Ctrl-U
Cursor Down Ctrl-J
Start Line Ctrl-A H
End Line Ctrl-A E
Insert Toggle Ctrl-I
Delete Char Ctrl-D
Erase From Cursor Ctrl-Y
Next Word Ctrl-N
Prev Word Ctrl-V
Top of Text Ctrl-T
Bottom of Text Ctrl-B
Extend Length Ctrl-E
Quit Process Ctrl-X
Esc Key Esc
User Key Ctrl-Z
Tab (Skip MV Set) Ctrl-A J
Back Tab
Call Intuitive Help Ctrl-F 3

Keys valid on controlling multi-value fld:
Insert Line Ctrl-A I
Delete Line Ctrl-A D
Page Up Ctrl-O
Page Down Ctrl-P
Invoke Text Edit Ctrl-W

The function key Ctrl-F # all worked as well (including Ctrl-F 0 for F10). I
won't comment on the brilliant idea of having the page down instructions on
the second page....

You may also want to try using Dynamic Connect. Using it's default type of
vt100 with SB+ telnet works reasonably well. The biggest issue is you need
to use the Ctrl-F # for some of the function keys.

I have some setup notes at work that will pretty much allow Dynamic Connect
to work like SBClient in 'character' mode. The 'client' routines don't
work - but it looks and acts nice.

Of course, to really get SB+ to shine you need SBClient. Last I heard there
were no plans to release a PE version of it. However, it may not be required
much longer either....

OK. Here are my Dynamic connect notes. For some reason it seems to be having
some trouble with some screens. They take a long time to come up. SBClient
works fine but the telnet and udt (using default.term) seems to be having
trouble.

Most of the settings are left at the defaults.

I have no idea why getting Dynamic connect to work with SB+ is so difficult.
With some help from the SB list on u2ug.org (specifically Stuart) this is
what I've done:

Dynamic Connect
Setup/Terminal/Terminal emulation = vt220 (or vt100 works)
Setup/Terminal/Extensions = sb and sb_keys.

SB+
Terminal Emulation = TERMITE.COL copied to DC which is setup as follows
(I've tried to mark ** my changes):

Malcom - it depends on what terminal emulator you are using and what
emulation it is doing. Normally i run in vt220 mode (as vt100 only has
4 function keys). However if you are just using telnet from a
command/shell prompt then default.term or telnet will work, but I
would not expect any line drawing or function keys to work well...

SB Client and Wintegrate i know both work very well, I am sure accuterm
would aswell + there are some free vt220 emulators out there.
