Default OpenQM vers 2.2-16 problem - 11-30-2005 , 04:35 PM

Goo'day, all,

I don't know if there are any OpenQM users here that don't subscribe
to the OpenQM lists, but......

There is a problem in OpenQM 2.2-16 that concerns SH and QMBasic
OS.EXECUTE - they don't work.

The fix is in upgrading to 2.2-17, but in the 2.2-17 release notes
Martin mentions the problem as being only an NT4 problem.

It ain't. We've had support calls today from 2.2-16 users on XP/Pro
where the problem has raised its ugly head.....

So....... upgrade to 2.2-17.... problem gone....

If it ain't broke, fix it until it is....

Guess I'd better reply to this...
Bruce made us aware of a problem that actually identified two issues.
The first is a memory corruption that, as far as we can tell, applies
only to NT4 and seems to be a bug in an underlying Windows API. The
second problem (the one that causes SH to fail) was our fault and
results in the popen() C library function deciding not to execute the
command after all. It's an odd one but I can just about understand the
reason why it might work as it does.

As Bruce says, both were fixed for 2.2-17. Neither problem affects
Linux users.
