Hi,

Have you set up security? Or are you just typing SECURITY ON and
expecting things to happen?

First of all, if SECURITY is OFF, then users need to be an authorised
user of the O/S. In most cases, this is quite sufficient.

If you want to restrict the use of OpenQM to a smaller group of users,
then you should use SECURITY.

For an example of setting up SECURITY, see "Getting Started in OpenQM -
Part 2" around page 218. See also the OpenQM documentation for SECURITY,
User Registration, and ADMIN.USER

I hope this helps,

Sorry, but it is difficult to understand exactly what you are asking.

First, why are you trying to turn SECURITY on? No-one can log in unless
they are an authorised user. Why is this not sufficient for your purposes?

If you really DO need security turned on, have you defined the users for
QM's internal security? According to the help files:

"If the SECURITY command is used to enable QM's internal security
system, users connecting directly to QM via a network who do not appear
in the user register will be rejected."

This sounds like what is happening.

See the help topics: ADMIN.USER , CREATE.USER , SECURITY , and User
Management and System Security.

If you don't have the OpenQM help files, you can download them from:

http://billabong-services.co.uk/anji...help_2-6-6.zip

Or for current versions of the help files and documentation, go to:

http://www.openqm.com/cgi/lbscgi.exe...s&X=8q91j8n58e

Note also that error 5017 is not an OpenQM error - or at least not one
that is listed in the ERR.H file.

Cheers,

Brian

Create a group called pick or whatever name for the group you would
like. Create a user and put them into that group.

In their home profile, put a script like this called .bash_profile.

# Get the aliases and functions
if [ -f ~/.bashrc ]; then
. ~/.bashrc
fi

# User specific environment and startup programs

PATH=$PATH:$HOME/bin

export Path

umask 002

qm -aYouraccount

exit

The user logs into linux and is validated and then will be taken into
the account that you specify in the script.

Getting a little off topic since this started out as an open source
question for which there is, of course, no support, to be really
thorough your example shell script should do
exec qm -aYouraccount
so that there is absolutely no way the user can "fall out of" QM down
to an operating system command prompt.

Martin,

I thought that the exit command right after the qm -aYouraccount would
log it off of linux.

Also, I hope that the user realizes that the gpl version is
approximately 5 years old and there have NUMEROUS enhancements, bug
fixes etc. that have been done to the commercial version since that
release.

All being well, this is the case but using exec absolutely guarantees
that it is impossible to exit down to the underlying command processor
because it's gone.
