Default OpenQM doco in Wiki - 07-19-2006 , 05:11 PM

Everyone using OpenQM for *anything* should check-out
http://www.nuwiki.com/cgi-bin/nuwiki...ay=CATEGORY:QM

(If that doesn't work try, www.nuwiki.com and click 'unofficial OpenQM Wiki'
at the bottom)

Jon Sisk and Harvey Rodstein have a wiki engine purring smoothly on top of
the Nucleus environment from Binary Star.

Anyone interested in running Wiki collaboration sites on top of MV databases
should take a look too...

Just sayin'

BFaux ;-)

Very impressive! So, OpenQM is the database and Nucleus was used to
develop this wiki, right? Good job Jon & Harvey!

So, if you are considering using a development tool to work with OpenQM
where you apps will run in W3C standard browser environment, you would
want to choose DesignBais if this and that and the other thing, Nucleus
if some other reasons, and others? Just curious, as usual. --dawn

Hi Dawn-

Note to all: this is not intended to be an advertisement, but it sort of
reads like one, sorry 'bout that...

Actually, Nucleus supports W3C compliant browser based apps too. In fact,
it is one of the only development environments that allows text screen, GUI
screen, and Browser displays to use common business logic, (add Wiki
collaboration ability now too.) All running on top of just about any MV
platform; mvBase, UniVerse, OpenQM, D3 (more...) and if your favorite
platform is not supported, drop a line to Harvey and he'll either provide
it, or have a good reason why he can't.

DesignBais is 'light-weight' and easier to learn with less overhead than
Nucleus, but if you want a bit more horsepower under the hood and the
ability to run apps in a cohesive environment beyond browsers, then Nucleus
is worth a look. If it's still 'up' you should check out the description of
Jon and Harvey re-creating the Quicken (sic?) asset management application
from scratch in less than two weeks (including documentation.)

The impressive thing for me is a single set of business rules executed on
all three desktop types with the ability to implement any combination
thereof, Harvey has been especially creative in how he merges support for
drop-down selects in GUI screens with input fields in text screens to trap
the same input values, kinda cool. And now, wiki style collaboration via
browser interface is included as well.

BFaux ;-)

PS - I encourage anyone interested in either of the products mentioned to
visit the appropriate web site and investigate for yourself. Nucleus is at
www.binarystar.com not sure where DesignBais is available, I'm sure it's
"Googleable" (is that a new word?)

Couple of questions:
1) Does Nucleus limit you to IIS, like DesignBAIS,
or is Apache an option?
2) Does Nucleus prevent you from putting custom
JavaScript code on pages, like DesignBAIS?

I ask because these two limitations keep me from
considering DesignBAIS.

Hi John,
- Nucleus / Starsite applications do support Apache. NuWiki is using
Apache.
- Java script can be added - it's even automatically generated for
validations
- Ajax integration is in the works
- Style sheets too

Thanks. I'd taken CSS for granted, but shouldn't have.
Style sheets are 'in the works' or currently supported?

And what is Starsite?

Hi Frosty
I am interested in why you want to add javascript. Surely it is the
standardisation of the Display - Presentation Layer - that is one of the
major benefits of any 4gl.
Surely all rules type testing should be at the server end.
