Default OFF/EXIT TELNET D3/NT - 01-25-2006 , 12:01 PM

What is the correct method to leave the D3/NT environment when you are
connected via Telnet without clobbering the VME?

In my case, I connect via Telnet using AccuTerm.

Should one use OFF or EXIT at D3 before shutting down the AccuTerm
session?

exit
On either D3NT or D3Linux we have only used 'off' for a serial connection in
order to maintain baud rate. Exit frees up the user license and, if properly
configured, closes Accuterm as well.

And for those of you who thought I retired...nah, not yet.

On D3/Linux, I know how to identify whether a user logon is serial or
telnet.
For these systems, I have developed a "smart.off" routine that does
either OFF or EXIT appropriately.

However, I have not discovered how to identify a telnet user on D3/NT.
That information would be appreciated. TIA.

Dave,

Are you looking for a generic solution or just a specific solution?

I've got two clients using D3/NT with telnet and serial connections,
on both clients, I know which port the user is coming in from.

On one client, the first 16 ports are serial and on the other, it's the
first 32. So, if the port number is greater than 16 on the first machine,
I can use the "EXIT" command, otherwise I have to use the off.

Homer,

I'm not that lucky. On the two D3/NT client systems I have access to, I
am a "guest" for additional support. So, I do not have control over the
way the system is set up. Neither system uses nailed ports. In my case,
I come in via Telnet and my current port number is unpredictable.

Since I know I am Telnet, I know I can safely use the EXIT command to
get off the system -- according to other replies in this thread. But,
other users may not be that knowledgable and *may* be leaving the
system the wrong way -- I was hoping to help them with this matter.

With D3/Linux, the TTY command indicates if the port is Telnet or
Serial. The TTY command is not available with D3/NT. With D3/Linux, my
SMART.OFF routine works great -- it will do the appropriate OFF or EXIT
by looking at TTY values first -- then causes the (custom) OFF verb to
do the right command whether the OFF is issued from TCL or from
Application Software.

I was hoping there was some D3/NT command/verb I could use to indicate
if the user was Telnet or Serial. If there is no such command/verb
available on D3/NT, so be it.

Errr, LARRY,

I don't think either of the two D3/NT systems have any Serial ports.
It appears everyone uses Telnet access.

Dave:

You might want to use the "nt_pinfo" command, as this displays the stuff you
want.

Bill,

That command (nt_pinfo) is exactly what I was hoping for.
Thank you!
