Default No Login Prompt - 07-14-2006 , 08:26 AM

I have a call into my VAR and Raining Data. I get ": Connected to
Virtual Machine 'pick0:LEW'." and that's it. Hit [Return], but nothing
happens.

I thought it might be a hung semaphore, so I did a d3 -D from Linux,
then s-, but that didn't work.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Danny

Never mind. Raining Data helped me. For the record - Never do s- to
decrement the semaphores. Doing so can mess up everything.

Go to the d3 server, login as root, and telnet localhost
-- If that gives you a normal d3 login, you might have a
firewall problem, or general lan problems, like two
seats both using the same ip address, or extreme
amounts of useless traffic on the lan due to malfunction.
-- if that doesn't work either, then shut down the d3
subsystem {log in to DM and do shutdown (y } then
enable the telnet server of linux, and make sure that
even _that_ works. Now disable telnet again and
bring up d3 as before. This step makes sure that d3
is at fault, instead of some subtle problem with transport
or adjustment at your workstation software or linux
security or general lan issues. Oh, and before you
bring up telnet, mv /etc/securetty /etc/securetty.orig
or else telnet will lie and say that's not the right root
password. {Or just leave securetty alone and do your
telnet test-login as a non-root user.}
