Grigory, I've always been confused by your offerings. Which one of
these statements is correct?:

1) BRIZ and all related tools built on BRIZ are free _and_ Open
Source.

2) BRIZ has a cost but everything you build over it you publish as
open source and give away so that people will buy BRIZ.

I apologize that I have never understood BRIZ or any of the tools that
work with it. You and I have exchanged emails on this topic - it
would be great if you could find someone who speaks English better to
explain and represent your products. I know you have something good
there but it's so difficult for some people to figure out exactly what
that is. Maybe someone here can offer to work with you in a
"technical marketing" capacity to give you better exposure and help to
sell ... whatever it is that you're actually selling.

Good luck.
Tony

Hello Tony,

Sorry. Yes, my English is very bad. I hope that my programs much better
than my English.

Quote:
1) BRIZ and all related tools built on BRIZ are free _and_ Open Source.
BRIZ.EXE (Workstation part) is middleware for providing connection to
the server.
Server libraries (such as GP_TERM.LIB and FlashGUI) provide API between
DataBasic application and BRIZ.exe. BRIZ.EXE is not Open Source yet
(may be in the future).
Server libraries and tools are Open Source (Please, see thread title).

Quote:
2) BRIZ has a cost but everything you build over it you publish as
open source and give away so that people will buy BRIZ.
BRIZ.EXE have cost only for commercial products (See license
agreement).
Main idea:
1 BRIZ.EXE has not any copy protection, and will not have any
protection in the future.
2 BRIZ.EXE will always free for developers
3 BRIZ.EXE will always free for in-house use
4 BRIZ.EXE will always free for use with freeware

Server library GP_TERM.LIB and declared tools will always free and
open.

I hope that developers, who already using BRIZ and know English, will
tell more about it in BRIZ Google group. Also I hope to find partners
company.

So BRIZ has a cost for commercial users, but not if you use it with
your freeware? That doesn't make a lot of sense yet. I'm sure there
is a translation issue, let's work it out...

If a company wants 5 users to have a thick application using BRIZ, I
think they need to purchase 5 licenses.

If a company loads one of your freeware offerings onto those same 5
users, they don't need 5 licenses?

What if an end-user they have both some freeware and they wrote their
own software?

What if someone uses BRIZ to write something neat and they give it for
free - do end-users need BRIZ licenses? (Note this is like my MVExec
and other utilities - I give them away but they rely on a for-fee
mv.NET license.)

Under the GPL, if someone uses your open source code to develop a
"product", they must also provide their source, whether or not they
give or sell their product. Is BRIZ free for commercial users that
are using open source third-party products like this?

Sorry for the confusion. Maybe this discussion will help others to
understand what you're doing there too.

Regards,
T

Hi Tony,

I had had some discussions with Grigroy b4.

Briz will only be FREE if the source code is provided to the public =
OPEN SOURCE = GPL

In order to give the max. FREEDOM to the developer to try out BRIZ
and develop their own 'product', developr doesn't need to pay any
single cents

Commerical use or NON OPEN SOURCE = PAY... ^_^

I hope I doesn't interpret wrongly on Grigroy's idea.

Hello Tony,

I am assured that all attitudes should to be based on trust and
honesty. A priori I consider that all people are fair. It is idealism
but so it is more pleasant to live.

1. Briz is free to endusers.
2. Briz is free to developers of commercial and inhouse software. (For
all developers because they are endusers too)
3. Payment to Infotools is due on sale of Commercial software using
Briz or on commissioning of Inhouse software using Briz.
4. Payment and level of support will depend on agreement between
Infotools and the Developer.
5. Some support to freeware users of Briz will be available after
agreement with Infotools.

Many thanks all my friends which have helped me to formulate these
explanations.

Regards,
Grigory

Hello Grigory,

I *think* I understand.
Are you saying that Briz is free up to the point where a developer sells
a piece of software that he developed using Briz? And that when such a
sale is made, it is up to that developer to contact you and pay
Infotools? Further, are you saying that the price that developer would
pay is $25 if used with OpenQm, and $100 for any other MV database?

If you could, please clarify what "commissioning of inhouse software"
means. Does this mean when I deploy my software to a production
environment?

I'm sorry if this is obvious to everybody but me.
But it looks like you have a nice product, and I want to be sure I
understand the licensing.

Yes. (For example: per year or per month)

Quote:

At this point no. The price that COMMERCIAL developer would pay is from
$0 up to $75 for any MV (depend on agreement between Infotools and the
Developer).

$25 is annual support (At will). Without support You can ask only in
BRIZ Google group.

Solving Errors and fixing BUGS are free.

I'll answer later. My friends will help me answer correctly. Excuse me.
