Default 'Nelson' database??? - 04-20-2006 , 12:07 PM

***THIS IS NOT AN ADVERTISEMENT***

I just came across a recent article by Jon Sisk where he refers to Pick/MV
as the 'Nelson' database (he doesn't quote the name like I did.)

Is this a way to add a fresh face to our world? Dunno, but fruit for
thought... link to page of which I speak is below (on BinaryStar/Nucleus
Wiki, didn't know Nucleus supported wiki's)... live 'n learn...

Link: http://binarystar.pbwiki.com/Creatin...%20Application

makes me think it's not too late after all...

Probably referring to Don Nelson who was one the original architects
along with Dick Pick. Google "pick database don nelson", you'll find
it.

Take a look at the paper that I scanned in and Nelson's resume from
Bohner (IIRC)

Good deal -- it looks like Jon and company are busy over there at
BinaryStar.

I don't think calling it a Nelson database will make any difference,
although something is needed. I would suggest that aligning with other
non-relational products, such as Cache', Berkeley DB, etc and coming up
with a bigger umbrella might make some sense. Post-relational never
worked. Something that indicates beyond SQL or aligning with XML might
be helpful. --dawn

Dawn-

I was thinking the same thing, but I had not seen anyone referring to the
database by this name before. I did know to whom the reference referred as
the association between Dick and Don at TRW is well known - it's the new
'global' reference that got my attention.

I agree completely with you here Dawn, just look at what AJAX did for
JavaScript in less than a year! How about MIX (MV - Integrated with XML)?

I'm talking about End-to-End AJAX with the same data model at each end
(not the same logical data model) --dawn

"Post-relational" seems to have worked wonders for Cache'.
http://www.intersystems.com/cache/index.html

Something only has a chance of working if it is tried. This community
doesn't do much marketing so it's tough to tell what works from what
doesn't. I sometimes think we get a little too hung up on monikers
and models where we should just let the apps do the talking and go
sell solutions.
