Default Need to connect d3/linux to excel using odbc - 05-23-2010 , 01:48 AM

I use d3 odbc extensively for connecting windows apps to d3 data and
subroutines but cannot figure out how to connect excel and a few other
apps to d3 data. Each time I try to connect I get numerous errors and
end up with 2 to 3 hung connection on the d3 server. Using the C4 odbc
driver and d3/linux 7.5.1 on red hat server 5.3. Anyone have any
ideas? Thanks in advance, TerryP

C4 ?!?!?!

Try C32 and then post your experience.

OK switched to C32 and now the first time I try to connect to excel I
get this: "The Data Connection Wizard cannot obtain a list of
databases from the specified data source."
The second time it comes back with "Unable to obtain a list of tables
from the data source."
Seems odd that error would change. What say you?
Mahalo,
Terry

Yeah, strange to get a different error, but no unheard-of.

I seem to recall that if you use the standard Windows app for viewing
Datasources for user/system/etc that you don't see the D3 driver or
datasources, but you do see them if you use th Datasource app that's
presented under the D3 ODBC Client menu item from Start>All Programs.
I'm guessing Excel is looking at a location other than where your
definitions are stored. I don't work with this enough to know how to
resolve this though I have a couple clients where I suspect this is
going to come up soon.

Maybe the system just needs to be rebooted?

Sorry I can't be of much more help. Given that you have a very recent
release of D3, I'm guessing you're covered by Support, so I think
you'll get a quick resolution with a simple phone call or email.

Best,
T

How are you setting up the odbc connection (user/system)?

Tried that right away when I first saw your question. It made no
difference. When I try to connect to the dsn which, btw is pointed at
the d3 server's sqldemo account, I get a response "The Data Connection
Wizard cannot obtain a list of databases from the specified data
source."
