Default Nebula XLite Performance Issues - 01-25-2011 , 08:46 AM

Have the performance issues of XLite been resolved for D3?

The last time Tony G. and I conversed on this was Aug 2009. At that
time, performance for XLite on D3 was extremely poor if trying to
create a spreadsheet of 1500 or more rows by about 8 - 10 columns.

In another recent thread, Tony indicated that the issue was resolved
and that it was only ever an issue on D3 7.2.x. I don't recall our D3
version at the time, but it now 7.5.7. Considering how many times we
conversed on the subject, I was surprised not to receive any
notification of this resolution. However, I did mention to him at the
time that we were forced to move away from XLite due to performance
issues. So, perhaps that is why I was left out of the loop?

I would be interested to hear from people using XLite on D3 with regard
to performance. How many rows x columns do you regularly output with
XLite? How long does it take? What is your hardware configuration and
D3 version? Again, we were forced to abandon the product due to very
poor performance on exports that I think most people wouldn't even
consider moderate in the business world.

The above may sound like I'm quite negative about the product. Not at
all. For what it does, it's pretty nice and the price is reasonable.
If the performance issues have been resolved, I can see some of our
clients being interested in it again.

Kevin,

I just ran a test on an audit sample program that we have.
7 columns 3192 rows.
1 minute 39 seconds but that includes moving the file out to the users workstation so most but not all of that is Xlite.

We're D3/Linux 7.5.0 but we run it on 7.4.2 as well with no problems. I don't recall the exact hardware specs on that server but it's a pretty beefy quad core Zumasys server (about 3 years old). It works for us. Saves us a lot of hassle. I don't know if the above numbers constitute a performance problem or not for you.

Steve

Steve,

I appreciate the feedback. I hope a few more people respond with some
stats for comparison.

[snip]

I haven't yet got around to trying this product -- mean too, have
a use for it. As always, I appreciate your truth-in-advertising,
Tony.

I get very similar results as Steve on a sample file:
6 columns 3440 rows
1 minute 36 seconds

This is on D3/aix.

NebulaXLite really helps get reports formatted automatically before
sending to clients.

I do have some performance issues generating large spreadsheets, but
it is tolerable. One monthly spreadsheet has 10 tabs, 500+ rows on
each, with an average 15 columns.

I still waiting on enhancements to setup page formatting for
printing. I have to manually set that after generating... PITA for
EOM reports (30 different spreadsheets, 2 tabs each).

Overall the product has been great and saves many hours.
