Does anyone have a copy of mvE on SCO (or UNIXWare) lying around gathering dust? I'm looking to do some development for an mvE environment but don't have access to an AIX box. Thanks, Steve |

You're asking for a free copy of licensed software in a public forum?? That takes some cajones. I understand the spot you're in but the appropriate solution would probably be to get your client/prospects to provide access to their system, or to buy a development license from RD. Free development licenses are available from Raining Data for qualified VAR/developers - you might get a license for mvEnterprise if you just asked for it. Contact RD Sales for more info. Tony, I'm doing nothing of the kind. I HAD contacted RD first and was informed that mvE on SCO or UNIXWARE is an obsolete product that they no longer provide. I was also told that D3 on SCO was another product no longer available, although if you already had a license, you could purchase additional seats. I am a developer, not a pirate, and do also value the protection of my IP and copyrights. I merely wish to port my application to another platform. I DO have a development copy of mvBase, provided by RD. I also have a desire to offer one of my applications in a format suitable to be run on an mvE environment, but do not currently have an AIX machine at my disposal. Thus the request to the group to see if there might be a copy of mvE for the Intel platform available. I was not looking to "poach" any revenue from RD, merely provide an application in a format useful for a class of their licensees. So, if anyone might have a copy of this "obsolete", "no longer available" development environment for which they no longer have a need, please let me know. Thx. Please accept my apologies Steve. We occasionally see similar requests in this forum from people who don't seem to understand or respect product licensing. I take hard line on this because in the past there were a rash of pirated licenses in specific countries, and that has hurt the industry in some ways. RD no longer sells mvEnterprise for SCO/Unixware, but if you can't find it elsewhere I'm wondering if they would accept payment for T&M to copy their old install media. They have little to gain from a free effort to provide free copies of a dead product, but for a couple hundred bucks they might dupe a tape. You might want to ask them to contact one of their old mvE/Unixware clients on your behalf to ask them if they could share their media with you - that would also introduce you to a potentially new client, and give RD the opportunity to offer migration to a more current platform. HA! What am I saying, that's Sales! I'm sorry forget that one. There are ways around this problem but small thinking prevents people from making it happen. Sorry and good luck.
