Hi there,
I am currently running a 100 user mvBASE 1.3.02 PS9 system using NT4 on a
Compaq Proliant 6500 with Dual Pentium Pro 200Mhz processors with 2Gb
memory and a HP DAT 24. It has run fine for over 5 years now.
I have 44 OKi printers linked to the machine as well.
This machine is the only NT4 server left in our domain now, but it doesn't
seem to cause us any issues!
I was thinking of upgrading to a 2003 server but after reading the info from
RD about 1.3.02 not being able to run properly as a service I was very
unsure. Like you I was told to upgrade to version 2 ( as it does work
properly on 2003 as a service ) But again like you I can not justify
upgrading to version 2 for £17000 and have no tangible benefits, my FD just
laughed me out of his office.
see the link below, look at the foot note number 2
http://www.rainingdata.com/products/...heet/pick.html
I think RD should re-think charging for the upgrade to Version 2, especially
as I don't believe they are investing in the product anyway!
I am not sure if mvBASE can make any use of Quad processing ( possibley an
RD question )
I think just make sure you have good hardware!
Not sure if any of this really helps, but I thought I would just let you
know that you are not alone
Hope everything goes well!!!!

I've read and posted here about issues we've had with our mvBase system.
It
seems there are real issues with running mvBase 1.3.02 PS9 on WINK2 and
higher. We have a 200+ user license and spending $40K+ to upgrade them to
2.0 is not going to happen. So now the discussion is refitting a new
server with NT4 Server and running on that.
The issues we are dealing with are : mvBase changing the time and date to
random values by itself and mvWorkstation service randomly shutting down.
These events are not related in time, but both create headaches.
Any discussion on dual/quad cpus? We've run on a dual P3 cpu NT4 box (GA
ES400) in the past with few issues. If we have a dual cpu w/
hyperthreading server is that going to create any issues?
Does anyone have any comments on this move? Our network admin feels the
NT4 box will play nice on the network, so I'm in the mood to make the
move. |
