Default MV by Phone and Cross-Platform MV connectivity - 01-14-2011 , 02:31 PM

Just an FYI...

I blogged yesterday on recent developments with telephone interfaces
for SMS and voice. In short, we can now process a SMS
request/response with nothing but BASIC (depending on the
environment), and with any MV platform.

The blog includes notes on a cross-MV interface that I've created for
this application and others. So for example, you might want to deploy
a product that you can sell to sites with any MV platform, but you
don't want to write/maintain client connectivity code for every
platform or connectivity method (UO, MVSP, QMClinet, mv.NET, etc).

Comments and inquiries are welcome.

SMS really, really stinks; not the technology, but the
quality of services rendered by my phone service provider,
who I mercifully omit here. Also, not recently but a couple
years ago, I was actually getting SPAM via SMS!!!

Which sort of makes you wonder why twitter has been such a runaway
success ... perhaps I should have tweeted that so the rest of the
world would know?!?!

Agreed .... but if you are going to start to leverage technology,
perhaps it should at least be current?!? We first stated to leverage
SMS around 15 years ago ...

Picture the scene --> shipload (literally) of stock is held up by
storms on the Sea of China ... boat will now be docking 10 days later
than originally expected. Amend the shipment details, and all of the
customers with pre-sold orders from that shipment were alerted to the
new delivery date (in the case in point, YES, they all had mobiles,
'cause the customers were locksmiths)

Prior to the SMS gateway, it could take the best part of a day for
someone to contact all of the effected customers (could be 3-500 of
them)

Things are obviously different here, as I'm not aware of the ability
to pay a bill via an SMS (receive notification of a bill, or get a one
off authorization code, sure .... but "pay" ...)

I'm probably wrong, but the next "big thing" probably revolves more
around social media (twitter, facebook etc .... though once more these
have been leveraged for a while by some people) .... but if you can
build a business case for SMS, go for it

This software has been productized as SMS4MV and will be offered for
sale after more extended testing at beta sites.

In short, anyone can SMS/text a message to a phone number that has
been allocated to your account. The message is routed to your MV
system. Your BASIC code processes the request and returns a response.
It's simply a new UI which is convenient and familiar to everyone, and
there are endless applications.

I have created a preliminary marketing document for SMS4MV, including
pricing, and would appreciate comments. A developer doc will be
complete in the next few days as well.

If you're interested, please email.
Questions are welcome here and by email.
Thanks.
