Platform?

If Linux,
"dmesg | less"
in a root shell might provide some indication of problems.

As Gulraj indicated, knowing then platform might help --> which version
of Linux ?

I know that some of the early cuts didn't install the lp0 device

Almost makes me glad that I use Windows Servers!! <G>

It does mean that I'm no use to you at all in solving your problem!

Download the latest lppick from the FTP server @ RD. This is a known
signal "misuse", or should I say "ignore", issue in older lppick
service binaries. Some apps just don't port properly by "cp oldfile
newfile" when changing kernels. Heh Heh.

Only a really sadistic programmer ignores signals, especially
SIG_CHILD. :P

This doesn't really help troubleshoot the device problem when cat'ing
to /dev/lp0, though. Try "cat /etc/printcap /dev/lp0" from the bash
shell. Make sure you don't use the exclamation in the shell. That's a
D3 directive for shell execute.

192.168.1.39 connected to port 39151 (my guess is it's a non-standard
SSH port) has either:

a) a back TCP stack that's shrinking the host recv window to 0
b) a bad nic that's shrinking the host recv window to 0
c) a naughty user who is trying to tar-pit your box to an abrupt death
