Default Mentor-pro R83 back-up - 02-02-2006 , 06:55 AM

How do I make an R83 compatible back-up on Mentor-Pro?

We need some information off the system but I am somewhat in a bind
because I can just grab the box and start it up but all my manuals are
crated up, ready for a move.

Henry,

AFAIK account/full-saves made in Mentor 2.x on 1/4" SCT could be easily read
by D3 Linux. No special options in Mentor were applied. I doubt that Mentor
Pro is worse in this sense.

Henry,

IIRC MentorPro switched backend formats between version 2.x and 3.x where
the frame size was increased from 512 bytes to 2048 bytes. To allow
backward compatibility they added an option to the 'SAVE' verb for backward
(C)ompatibility. Add the letter 'C' as an option at the end of the save.
If you are on MentorPro 2.x or less, you should have no problem, and the 'C'
option will likely be ignored anyway so no harm in trying it. The syntax of
'Save' also changed slightly;

<ex>
SAVE SYSTEM SYSTEM (TYC
</ex>

'T' = tape (also virtual tape based on previous T-SELECT command)
'Y' = Yes, check for GFE's during write (skipping this can create
interesting results at the other end)
'C' = backward Compatible format (R83)

Note: You may need to 'T-FWD' past the initial header at the other end,
sometimes you get an extra file mark between the header and the first data
file for some reason.
