Default job offers - 11-22-2005 , 12:40 PM

synopsis

job: mv programmer with exactly the experience with all of the
software that we run at our company

salary Half of the money your asking

Must be willing to relocate, doesn't matter where you live we are not there.

I have seen this add about 50 times in the last year.

comments anyone?

Well I suppose that if you needed a set of skills in your company you would
advertise for a programmer with all of these skills! You may not get it
all, but it doesn't hurt to ask!

As for salary, I guess this is supply and demand, though perhaps works the
same way - start off low and work upwards?

The multi-tude of skills probably reflects the no of differing skills that
go into an IT environment these days as well...

Just my 2 cents.

Likely this is simply to satisfy some state or corporate mandated job
announcement that the employer already has a candidate for.

As an example, my wife was offered a job at a utility company (which
she accepted) and was told that she "had" the job but that it must be
posted internally (to satisfy internal fairness rules) and externally
(to satisfy U.S. Employment guidelines) for a minimum of 2 weeks. The
job posting was written in such a way as the only person in the world
that could meet all of the requirements was (surprise) my wife. I'm
surprised they didn't put height and weight parameters in the job
requirements <grin>.

My experience over the last 5 years has been that after the 'dotcom
meltdown' when droves of me-too IT experts thronged the sidewalks, some
resumes were not entirely honest.

Employers and their headhunters got burned by false claims of IT
experience/knowledge. Now oldtimers like me ( 30 yrs of MV / Pick )
must try to convince recruiters that "Unidata programming" = "Universe
programming" and other such nonsense.

Also many times relocation is not offered and local candidates are the
only ones even considered or acknowledged. I have often considered
employment in secondary skillsets -- vehicle mechanic. Many poker
professionals are ex-IT developers!

all very good ideas.

I have been contacted by a few headhunters this week with strange if not
bizarre requests.

1) we have a part time job that we dont know what you will be doing or when
you will be doing it but we are at your beck and call.

2) corp to corp special requirements, liability insurance, etc.

3) hey, I found out that the 125k you want is really only 50k, sorry, I
guess I should have checked with the company first

4) we would like you to sign a non-compete clause before you get the job

WOW my head is still spinning
