Default jBASE questions - 09-25-2010 , 06:36 PM

I used to subscribe to the jBASE list (and maybe I still do, but
filter it, I dunno), but I'll start here with this question. Since
2000, what has happened with the ownership of the jBASE database
engine? I think it is still with Temenos, right?

Then I think that everything else is owned by Mpower1, including jBASE
International. I read a bit on each of these web sites. It appears
that Mpower1 would be relevant as the sales arm for Temenos jBASE, but
is not a "MultiValue manufacturer" itself. If we were to show the name
of the DBMS toolset, it would be jBASE, I think, while the company
would be Temenos and a value-added sales arm would be Mpower1, which
would be parenthetical. I don't think it would be necessary to show
jBASE International nor BlueFinity on this poster.

Does anyone have any other opinions on what should be different about
the jBASE path on the current poster? Thanks. --dawn

jBase yes, BlueFinity no.
jBASE is a database company.
BlueFinity is a tools company.
They happen to both be owned by the same parent, mPower1, and they
share some of the same personnel and resources. But BlueFinity has
had no part in the evolution of the DBMS itself.

Well, sort of, Tony. MPower1 is the owns the sales and support arm
for jBASE. Temenos owns the jBASE database.

Well, sort of, Tony. *MPower1 is the owns the sales and support arm

Rick
Yeah, so if jBASE, the database, is owned by Temenos and Mpower1 owns
the sales, marketing, and support arm, then I was thinking that jBASE
did add-ons, installations or ? In any case, it seems they are more of
a value-added third-party than the database developer. I'll have to
get my old notes, but Temenos buy jBASE, the database toolset, from
jBASE International?

Thanks. --dawn

Yes, Temenos bought jBASE from Jim and company in 2002 (?). Then
Temenos sold off the sales, marketing and support to MPower1 around
2003.

Shortly after I published the poster IIRC, so 2002 or 3.

So where is jBASE in this now? Are they a division of Mpower1? My
thinking was that jBASE as the owner of an MV DBMS ended with the sale
in 2002 (or so). Mpower1 should likely be listed because customers do
not work with Temenos as the owner. Do customers think of themselves
as working with the jBASE arm of Mpower1 or with Mpower1 or ...?

Thanks for your help clarifying. I'll contact Mpower1 directly when I
get further down the road, just trying to get the current list of
viable MV platforms and their ownership nailed down for starters. --
