Does anyone remember the fiasco at General Automation?

Would it be unfair to say Jane played a big role in that?

I think it might or might not be unfair. As one who had dealt with Ms
Christie on several occasions, I would not lay the crime at her feet
entirely. GA's board should share in the blame, as well as a business
environment that was not friendly to non-dot-com struggling enterprises.

GA had a long and scrappy history of being almost down-and-out several times
and came through every time but the last, reinventing themselves several
times. This last time, they were seduced by the GUI/dot-com sirens - Liberty
software was one name that comes to mind (btw what happened to them? see
aside below). They also tried to enter into a relationship with Reality for
no discernable advantage to them, and spent a lot of time and effort on that
attempt. The GA R91 port (disclosure- 'twas one of my most enjoyable
projects) was extremely viable and moved Pick forward a few notches.
However, marketing diffusion led to the increasing emphasis on the
GUI/browser (supposedly) tools, which, as we all know are a sure-fire recipe
for hemorrhaging money. Buying Sequoia (mvEnterprise) then selling all mv
products was the road to the end.

aside I- noting Tony's comments about Googling names, Liberty must rank as
one of the least desirable. Check out (Google Liberty Software) the weird
LibertySoft website http://www.libertysoft.com/, (I mean, do we care about
Kathy and Jon's Cambodia trip?) and Liberty Street Software (keeps track of
events in front of your house?) and Liberty document, consignment and
"inspirational" software, alas, no Liberty-connected-with-GA site.

aside II - Googling General Automation brings up General Automation Ltd
(http://www.ga-limited.com/GENERAL%20...ION%20LTD.HTM), whose
limitations extend to poor grammar and worse syntax, and I expect has
nothing to do with the old GA. And oddly, the old http://www.gaexpress.com
brings up a pharmacy, 3-am.com...if any web-wizard can satisfy my curiosity
as to how, I'd appreciate it.

How about multivalue.com? --dawn
P.S. Ah WordMark, a blast from the past for me.

Yup, thanks for the url, another well designed and professional site from
the mv world. Maybe Tony G is right after all, we Pickies don't deserve
better. mv site designers have got to be visually impaired.

However, glad to see that there is an oldie still in business, still selling
an antique word processor, yet!

Are you sure it is not the technology behind Google's Writely?

Talk about cyber-squatting...

OK, here's another one:
genauto.com. Formerly home for General Automation.
Note that's not really a site for automobiles, it just looks like it.
The domain is managed by groups like NameMedia Inc and GrassRoots.org.
They apparently just grabbed the domain and put some stuff up about
cars to give themselves some legitimate content.

Chandru:

Try www.fusionware.net. I think this is the correct site.

Jeff,
I think that it would be unfair to say it was Jane's doing that caused the
problems at GA.

She inherited a large, nasty, smelly can of worms when she took over the
helm at GA, and worked hard at seeing that employees were kept on the
payroll, the checks didn't bounce and the company stayed afloat (as long as
possible).

As a stockholder and a VAR I remember trying to contact Jane by phone and
mail several times with ideas I had to help.

She never returned my calls or my emails. I lost a lot of money on that
Comany as it was driven into the ground, while under her charge.

You too? I thought I was the only one to lose money on GA!
