Default How to set default login account for Universe on Windows? - 05-13-2005 , 05:18 PM

Hi all.

The default console and telnet login provided by Universe on Windows
always prompt the users to enter an account to log in to.

Does anyone know a way to make Universe log in to a specific account
automatically based on user ID?

I could not find any information on this in IBM's Universe manuals.

Thanks.
-JL

Correction. Only telnet logins would prompt for account name. The
defaut console login (C:\IBM\UV\bin\uvsh.exe) will login into UV
account directly.

JL,

There are three main ways to start a user in a given UV account and two
variants on each way. They are:

Home Account Set in each user's Window's profile in the Local Path
field
Home Directory same
Any Account Prompt at login (Administrator users are always
prompted)
Any Directory same
UV Account Defined UV.LOGINS file in UV account
UV Directory same

Selecting Home Account, Any Account, or UV Account requires the account to
already exist. Selecting Home Directrory, Any Directory, or UV Directory
allows the user to setup a new UV account if the directory is not already
one.

To select the login method use the IBM UV Admin GUI (UniAdmin) program.
Make the selection under:

Network Services -> Telnet -> Parameters -> User Policy

You will need to stop and start the UV services to put any changes into
place. Reference the Help button in UniAdmin -> Network Services -> Telnet
for details on this fairly complicated setup.

Go to Control Panel > Computer Management > Users. Double click
on a user Id and the properties window will open. Click on the
Profile tab. In the section labeled 'Home folder' click the local
path radio button and then type in the full path to the default
account and the user will be logged into this account automatically.
However, users with administrator priveleges will still be presented
with the account path prompt upon login. As far as I know there is no
way to prevent that.

One more question.

Is UniAdmin GUI program the only utiliy that allows me to change the
user policy from "Home Directory" to "UV Account"?

Is it possible to make the change in TCL or NT command prompt by
editing a record or configuration file?

I know the UniAdmin program will update the UV.LOGINS file but I don't
know where the User Poclicy is stored.

Thanks.

Nevermind. I just found the location of the user policy parameter.

It's store in the registry in a DWORD entry called "UserPolicy" in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\IBM\Universe\CurrentVe rsion.

Setting UserPolicy to 4 changes the User Policy to UV Account.
