Default GIRLS Papers - 02-28-2006 , 12:54 PM

I just posted two early GIRLS papers. The first of these is the oldest
(1965), while the second is a short four pages. These are accessible
from my current blog entry.

If anyone has any other similar papers or artifacts, I would be happy
to publish them as well.
Cheers! --dawn

P.S. Whoever sent me the first GIRLS paper a couple of years ago,
please e-mail me (dwolt at tincat-group.com) to remind me. I could not
find the relevant e-mails and would be happy to attribute the paper as
a gift from you. I am thrilled to have it. Sorry for losing that
information.

I just love the way he slips "These data control techniques, including
design and development of the first software computer, were published
in June, 1964" into his resume. A bit undertated I'd suggest. Also -
does anyone know the circumstances surrounding his apparent epiphany in
September, 1962?

Mike.

Yes, I've chatted with Ken about the Postley/Buettell GIRLS compared to
the Nelson/Pick GIRLS. My best guess at this point is that these are
quite distinct, with Nelson opting for a name that had already been
published as a query language name. It doesn't appear to me from a
language perspective that PICK and Informatics Mark IV have a similar
heritage.

Unless there is some evidence to the contrary, I'm figuring that there
were at least two GIRLS languages, or language specifications, that
were otherwise unrelated. I don't know if Ken will change that page to
split those out or not, but perhaps the 1965 GIRLS paper will help
resolve the question of whether these are the same GIRLS or different.
