I am unable to setup the Epson AcuLaser CX11FN through the Linux Printer Configuration menu using either Jet Direct 9100 or LPD 515. If I use Jet Direct setup the job goes to the printer with the response 'Print file sent, waiting for printer to finish' and using LPD 'Data file sent successfully'. Neighter setup product a print out. I would appreciate any help it setting up this combo printer. Many thanks, Alan |

Many thanks, Alan I googled to their epson.com page for it; *this is a color printer/scanner/fax, discontinued model, with network and usb 2.0 plugs. Command set is "ESC/Page Color S (Host Based)" -- isn't that just another way of saying it is a windows-only printer? *That is, it expects big graphics dumps instead of simple ascii streams of text. * Hope you're not on d3/linux, because a linux box probably isn't smart enough to feed it the documents in that graphic form, at first blush. *I admit we've been using our linux in dumbed-down mode for years; don't even boot it into runlevel 5 {X windows} anymore... |

Yes I am on D3/Linux, it looks like I will have to use another Laser printer. I do appreciate your reply. Many thanks. Alan |

Check release notes, and/or with your Value-Add Support provider. Or just nominate a windows box in the office to handle printer jobs for it, |

Or just nominate a windows box in the office to handle printer jobs for it, and to offer a public windows share; then use the features of samba on linux to print jobs via that printer share. You do not need linux samba server rpm loaded for this low-level use; if you get a response from doing a linux which smbprint then you've already got the client-side samba rpm loaded. Or wait, when you tweak a winbox to SEND lpr/lpd protocol print jobs, does it also let windows ACCEPT them on that protocol, too? Doing an nmap on that winbox's ip address or going over there and doing netstat -na at a command prompt of windows while sitting at that box will tell you if the lpr/lpd port is open at that winbox, which would answer that 'accepting' question... If the nominated box will accept lpr/lpd jobs then d3/linux server won't even need to use samba features, as the winbox is emulating another linux box for printing purposes... Hmm, on second thought, when windows accepts printer jobs on a share, |
