Default Epicor - Vantage product - 12-01-2005 , 05:13 PM

Just seeking confirmation that Vantage is SQL based, rather than one of
their pick based acquisitions?

I am dealing with an old Epicor product - ManFact. It is using a PICK
system...do you know anything about this...I am trying to extract the
data into SQL so we can qry the old records.

I know a fair bit about ManFACT, though it's been 5 or 6 years since
I worked with it. Most of the systems I worked with in the late 90s
were running on UniVerse/NT. Depending on the release of UV that
you're running, you should have a perfectly good SQL engine available
in UV. This would be my first suggestion. If that won't do it,
consulting help can be provided (by any Pick-savvy tech) to get the
data flattened and extracted. In either case ManFACT's a pretty
straightforward Prime Information-derived application, so anyone with
a background in UV, Unidata or Information should be able to help you.

There is the Query Builder utility within ManFact - however sometimes
it just errors on extracting some tables. Some of that data I have
been able to export via the QB as *.csv -- for these remaining
files/tables I am wondering if using something other than the ManFact
GUI is the best route?

IIRC that's the query builder found in the Wintegrate terminal
emulator, which is geared towards the native dbms dictionaries. It
will get you a long way there, but isn't the UV SQL engine I was
talking about. What database version is your ManFact running on top
of? Once you know that, you can have a quick chat with Epicor, or
move higher up the food chain to IBM, to find out if you have the
native UV SQL on your system. If not, or if you'll have to jump
through some licensing hoops to use it, the Pixieware editor product
mentioned elsewhere looks like it might do the job and be an
inexpensive one-shot buy. I haven't used it myself (and am not
affiliated with Pixieware in any way), but reading the online blurb
makes me think it worth considering as a quick way round your SQL
issue.
