DesignBAis Internation conference -

Went to the conference last week. These guys have got something that
will help the future of multi-value. It's like having a person (or 2)
working with you. I believe using DesignBAis should cut down my
development time by at least 50%. The guys from Australia know there
stuff and of course they use (have used) it to create their commercial
grade software. Folks from jBase, OpenInSight (Revelation), U2 IBM,
OpenQM, Cache, and OnWare presented current and future multi-value
environments. I guess if you want to be everything to everyone, OnWare
will 'take you there'. Very interesting stuff. Martin with OpenQM
presented the likes of 'QM on a PDA', 'QM on a USB stick'. QM is fast,
tight, and reasonably priced (as well as Revelation).
To me, I enjoyed the 'users' of DesignBAis showing and explaining
their software. The software was top grade in presentation,
functionality, and speed. Some were 'revitalized' legacy code and
others were new from the ground up. Exciting, revolutionary, and
'pretty'. (if that can be used to describe software) The 'time to
market' was appears to be quick and deployment efficient. Screens were
consistent throughout each design. One company has an absolutely tight
'airline baggage' application. It's obvious to me (traveling), that
lots of airlines are yet to use their system, because my luggage still
got displaced. Other software included RV/any kind of dealership,
parts, service applications, medical lab software, and payroll / human
resource applications running as SaaS (I learned that this is Software
as a Service).
The last day, Rick Weiser (from the USA) presented an Introductory
Course and David McLean (President) gave an Advanced Course. My
perception is that everyone liked what they saw and learned. From my
point of view, there is only one negative area. Everything else is
very positive.
There software requires a Windows Server running IIS. Me, myself, and
I would prefer Linux running Apache. I'm probably going to have to get
over it, because I want to join the DesignBAis membership group very
soon. I like what and whom I saw. First class development software,
commercial grade web applications, and hey - you eventually begin to
understand the Aussie accent. And if you don't, just talk to Rick
Weiser.
I wish these guys ALL the BEST. If any of you plan to upgrade your
software for presentation purposes or 'internet' access reasons, I
strongly suggest you give DesignBAis some serious time. |
