Default DesignBais - 02-20-2007 , 01:01 PM

Fellow CDP'ers,

I just wanted to post my preliminary impressions of DesignBais after
spending a week at a training class in Sydney and working with it for a
couple of weeks since.

First of all, we have been in search of a powerful tool that will enable us
to take our green screen distribution/POS application and upgrade it to
something current. Over the years we tried a number of packages, which I
will refrain from listing at this time. Some of them we knew would not work
within minutes. Others took longer to realize their short comings. Still
others were good, but were not what we were looking for. DesignBais (DB)
marks the end of our search.

Others, such as Tony Gravagno, are better suited to explain the technical
aspects of DB. I am just a lowly database programmer who happened to learn
Pick circa 1982, and not very technical.

In general, DB allows us to port our application to a browser, complete with
the look and feel of browser applications, plus field validation and
background processing. We are creating nice looking, fully functional pages
with a minimal amount of coding. Much of the code we are using can be copied
and pasted from the green screen program into the processing programs with
little or no modifications. I don't think there is a thing you cannot do
with DB. I can't tell you how impressed I am with this product. We do not
plan to loose a single feature of our green screen application, a software
that is very mature with a lot of drill down functionality, during this
conversion.

I am also very impressed with David McLean, the president of DesignBais
International and primary architect of DB. He instructed the class we
attended. He is a very talented, knowledgeable, and experienced person. He
can conceptualize the needs and requirements of software applications in
short order, and recommend a proper course of action. He is also a great guy
with a good sense of humor. Very personable and approachable.

Tony Gravagno has also been very instrumental in getting us started and
helping us solve issues with the conversion. Plus we are in the same time
zone.

DesignBais is putting on a conference for DB users and prospective DB users
in April. I highly recommend attending. You will not regret it.

On a side note, I find the Australian people in general to be very friendly,
personable, and funny. Their language and culture is very interesting and
fun to be apart of. We even got into a tight cricket match between Australia
and England (England won 254-253 with 3 balls left) and learned most of the
rules. This was my first venture down under, and I look forward to going
back.

Jeff,

I am very pleased that your experience with DB was so positive and
look forward to working with you in the future. I would like to add a
small piece of information about our User Conference, ITS FREE. All
you have to pay for is your transportation and lodging.

The focus of this conference is User Knowledge. The first two days
will be sesisons from other users who have implemented applications
powered by DesignBais and session from many of the Database vendors.
The third day will there will be 2 training tracks, a beginner (hosted
by myself) and an advanced track (hosted by David McLean).

This conference is a must for anyone who is even slightly thinking
about giving web presents to their legacy application.

Hope to see you all there,

Rick Weiser

That's great, Jeff. I'm really happy to hear about your success. It only
gets better.

David, Tony and Rick are an incredible and expanding team.

I have never seen this much potential in the MV market.

See you in Vegas,
Jeff

Hey! I'm funny! Funny means peculiar, right?

In any case, if I had been there, the Australian cricket team would have
fared far worse.

Say it like you mean it, bitch. ;^)
