I got this late breaking deal sweetener from IBM yesterday:
As an extra incentive to arrive at the IBM Information On Demand
Conference early, the U2 team is offering you your choice of two
complimentary Sunday tutorials with your paid conference admission.
This is a value of $399 USD. |
It seems people are missing obvious opportunities.
Some enterprising VAR could offer the following: Free 5 day training
of Universe or Unidata from the ground-up for companies with
conference attendees, up to two employees for each one paid attendee.
Training coincides with the conference so that everyone can arrive and
leave together. Get your new employees trained at this session while
your advanced users are getting details at the conference.
Variations: Skip the attendee requirement and offer 5 free days of
training. Or, skip the free part and ask for a token fee of $100 for
the week. Don't give away the store but don't make it cost
prohibitive either.
Why offer this? Anything that's done to get new people trained in MV
is good for everyone. Low-cost training for any MV platform makes it
easier to adopt that platform. It's good marketing for whomever
sponsors the sessions (sponsoring can include the training itself,
cofee, pastries, lunch, shuttle to/from training location, etc). For
IBM this would be a real deal sweetener to get more paid people to the
conference, and give them the ability to provide such training without
having to make space at the conference itself.
Who can offer this? Any one or more companies or individuals who are
motivated to sell products to the U2 market, and they have someone who
is highly qualified to provide such training. They don't even need to
be local, but it would help to have local office space, otherwise
space would need to be rented. Qualified companies that immediately
come to mind are IBM, MITS, Entrinsic, Raining Data, BlueFinity,
DesignBais, Kore, OHM, Technical Resource Group, U2Logic, Zumasys,
Highroad IT, Precision Solutions... - or maybe the U2UG can offer one
or more trainers (who themselves get some exposure) while some other
companies sponsor the sessions.
