Default DB File - 04-29-2010 , 01:50 PM

I have a DB file from a product called Vehicle Record System (by a
company called K-JON, who are now out of business) and I was wondering
if anyone knew what kind of DB file it was. I can open it in wordpad
but there is a lot of garbage characters int eh header of the file. If
I knew what DB format the developer used to create it I could export
the data.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

Does that Carnac the Magnificent guy still lurk here in cdp?

I bet he would know.

Seriously, Chad, you'll probably have to provide more details
about the DB file before anybody can determine what it is.

I doubt it is a pick or mv file.

However, I would try on a copy of the data file opening it with Excel. Excel
can open dbase, csv, and even xml files. It rather amazing in what it can
consume.

Another possible is to try many of the import filters from inside of
ms-Access.

As the other poster mentioned, without additional details, then it hard to
guess.

Do you have the original program or .exe file. Often opening up that file
with a editor will yield what language or development tools were original
used. There is a number of good free utilites on the internet that can
"determine" what system was used to create the .exe files.

I would try one/some of the dBase, III, IV formats first. Both excel or
ms-access can import many of these formats.

A google search reveals a slew of sites where the shareware from K-Jon
can be downloaded. Some appear to be current as of 2009. Presumably
you could access the data if you could download the correct
program????
