It sounds like he got a lot of mail from unhappy MV'ers and his editors
made him backtrack. Quite frankly, I think it makes him sound like a
hypocrite. If he truly believed what he said in his first article,
then he should have stood by it.

I don't have an opinion one way or the other about the article but I
do have an observation. These days whenever someone on the "outside"
talks about MV, they cite the U2 databases from IBM and Cache - and
Cache doesn't even technically belong in there! What the heck?!
Seems to me the marketing departments at all of the other MV vendors
need to get on the ball. And even if there is mention that there are
still some MV databases around, there is no implication that there is
any community, VAR channel, or wealth of end-users still using the
environment. In other words as far as the world is concerned, the MV
model might exist but you/we don't.

This comes back to the idea that the MV vendors simply can't be
responsible for marketing of this thing of ours. We must take it upon
ourselves. Unfortunately no one really seems to be interested, so
there it sits. Long live the queen indeed, she'll almost certainly
outlast this market.
