The other day I wrote another blog on the topic of D3 @variables, also
called Shell or Environment Variables. Other MV platforms support
this concept to some degree. This feature helps to do some very
powerful things in your queries and programs. It's especially useful
for reports where we might otherwise resort to writing a program
around a query.
