Default D3 Phantoms and blocking reads - What constitutes an "error" status? - 08-06-2011 , 11:49 AM

Hello Group:

I have two D3 systems of the same release and patch(es) which are
behaving differently in this manner:

On one system, when I invoke a phantom, where the phantom program is
at a blocking read (it's asking a question at a BASIC input
statement), and there is no stacked data to pass, the phantom will
hang indefinitely.

On the other system, the phantom will log off and log as a status "E"
in the JOBS file. I'm guessing that it sees there is no stacked data,
it knows it's at a prompt and therefore unable to continue.

How is it supposed to behave? Does anyone know if there is a "setting"
of some sort for this? I've tried starting the phantom with z and also
zd.

Thanks in advance.

J

A "P" option in the User's item should cause a blocked phantom to
terminate.

Thanks Tony:

I stumbled upon that fix by trial and error but couldn't post that to
CDP until now. The docs are definitely weak on that (at least the
one's I'm reading!)

Gracias,

Jay
