Hi Bill
You do not need to delete anything from the MDS to do a save of the VME.
Just SELECT MDS WITH A1 "D" then FILE-SAVE. When you initiate the restore
from the dos Command Line D3VME /RESTORE it will prompt you to select the
device which must have been set up as a hard device in windows D3 DEVICE
MANAGER -TAPESand you will get back all VME space.

If you want to extend the VME then that is even easier you just go to D3
DEVICE MANAGER and change the size up in SETTINGS. You cannot change down
this way.

Sorry I have not had time to locate NT-20 perhaps you can give us some idea
of what you are trying to do.

select mds with a1 q]
delete mds,, (only if there ARE any q items)
save
resize vme via DeviceManager
restore
qs.upd (rebuilds qs pointers)

After a restore, use "qs.upd" at TCL to add missing FSI pointers to
the MDS.

If you are saving FSI accounts, be sure to set the pointers to "QS".
"Q" pointer FSI accounts are not backed up !

I have a utility which manages the pointers in the D3 MDS, toggles
preferred accounts to D or DX, QS or Q so that on some days I can save
only specific accounts and on others I can do real full backups. The
code is not too big, but pretty ugly and I need to look at it all the
time to remember how to use it I haven't had time to make the
source clean enough for a real freeware offering but I wouldn't mind
sharing it with a few people who will really help to work on it to
make it useful and then I'll post it to my freeware page. Any takers?
And Please, do not offer unless you're really going to work on the
code - if you're looking for a free plug n play utility you'll just
destroy your system with this, wait for a real cut.

Hi
A word of caution here. This will remove all Q pointers. If you have any
special ones setup then they will never be restored. For example we always
setup a Q pointer using the Company name pointing at the master account, so
on all clients our operating software data is under the same account name
for ease of maintenance however the clients users are logged on with a LOGTO
CLIENTCO and thus their company name is picked up on every screen. I am
sure others will have other methods/reasons. Basically I would say never
delete anything from the MDS rather select what you want to save,

well, what this is really about is reclaiming overflow, when i do a
povf, i get less and less everyday. we do credit card processing and
have a lot of dos:files that we write to and read from. seems like that
is where the problem is. seems to me that doing a d3vme restore every 6
months is an easy fix. used to do a link-ws command in r83 but that
isnt around anymore.
