I have been using tcp/ip network printers with d3/linux for many years with great success. I'm now trying to connect another printer to the system without a networked pc in the middle by using an HP JetDirect 170x. I can print to the printer from an xp workstation but cannot from linux or d3. I have configured the printer the same as the other working ones. Anyone have any experience with this? Does SMB have a problem with HP JetDirects? Thanks for any help, Terry Pennington Mukilteo WA USA btw it's old d3 and linux d3 7.1.0 and red hat 5.1 or 5.2 |

You can also use "reverse telnet". On our LaserJets with an internal JetDirect card, we just printed direct to port 9100, and out came the results ... I'm not sure how you'd do this, but it's another option ... possibly it's as simple as "cat printfile laserjet:9100" or whatever the correct socket syntax is. Cheers, Wol Umm, the linux nc command is for dumping stuff to |

Hang on to all your old Redhat linux install media; I notice you can no longer download old copies of redhat; all the sites formerly mirroring redhat seem to no longer do so, and http://www.redhat.com/download/mirror.html takes you to mirrors for fedora instead of for legacy Redhat. |
