Default D3 desktop interactive Telnet windows pop-up on Server. - 06-20-2006 , 01:35 PM

We get interactive desktop telnet windows on servers at our client
sites and in-house when our GUI apps come across a vnav or Non-Numeric
abort, etc... We want to see these and do NOT want to turn off the
reporting by editing the registry. Our issue is that often the desktop
interactive telnet windows will be blank and/or take up resources and
holds on to that memory space on the desktop. This means when you
attempt to move the window it does not refresh/paint and you can only
end the processes.

We would like to know if anyone else has come across the latter and
know why this happens, etc?

Thank you,

DD

Could you fill in some blanks?

I'm going to guess that you are on D3/NT?

What/how are you achieving your GUI --> that will mprobably be the
biggest "key"

It's not exactly the same (GUI vs greenscreen telnet client) but we've
seen some funny behavior from Accuterm in certain circumstances. We
have a greenscreen Accuterm telnet session running a script that drives
a serial device. On certain PC's running XP, XP "loses" the serial
port and Accuterm starts to consume ever larger amounts of memory.
Exiting Accuterm brings the memory back and rebooting brings back the
serial device.

Also, these same machines in this configuration also seem to unlike the
"Send Keepalives" setting as this causes Accuterm to suck up increasing
amounts of memory. If you take the same PC, reformat and install Win2k
the problem goes away. It's been a minor annoyance and unfortunately
these serial devices cost $5k apiece so buying one and playing "find
the conflict" hasn't been an option. Happens on d3/NT, Linux & AIX so
it appears platform independant.
