Default D3 on Debian Linux? - 09-07-2005 , 06:57 PM

I am setting up a development box for some other work and was wondering if
it was possible to install D3 on Debian Linux. I would appreciate any
pointers on things to look out for. I will be setting things up this
weekend.

Thanks.

Matt

If you want to get onto an unsupported platform that is "free", perhaps
consider CentOS

Agreed - I use CentOS because it's built on the support RH kernel and
libs. Debian is completely different. I do know someone who has an
older D3 release over SuSE, but as Ross said, it's not supported if
it's not on a certified platform.

It's perfetly possible. I have a D3-server in debian 2.2
I remember that I've to install libc5: in debian: apt-get install libc5,
and then D3_setup don't crash.

If you have any cuestions send me a mail.

I have looked at CentOS, but for the other project we are using Debian for
the servers. I was thinking about putting D3 on just as a convience for
testing and development to eliminate another box.

It's possible, but you have to make sure you're using the right
library version for D3. You can run D3 on Debian with the libc5
compatability libs. You get both versions of the libs, so you can run
apps that need glibc(libc6) or libc5. I would recommend the "testing"
release since it contains the most recent libs and kernel. It is
up-to-par for current RH versions." Stable" is rock solid, but it
contains older libs and an old kernel. The hardware you need to use
will determine which one you'll want to use.

Check and see which lib version you're on:

dpkg --status libc5
dpkg --status libc6

Install libc5:
apt-get install libc5
