By the way, Bohner mentioned your comdex chairs with footpeddles today
(I hope I didn't confuse two stories, I might have to check notes
rather than relying on my brain). I like the idea of the control key
in a foot peddle. Given the peddles used with pianos and sewing
machines have lasted a so long, it is surprising that there is no
footpeddle used with computers. I like the idea. Cheers!

I hope that Bohner will post a link to pictures of those chairs because
they are a unique part of Pick history. When I first met Dick Pick, in
1986, I was at Thurman's show at Pheasant Run Resort near Chicago.
Like typical, I was sitting on a very high stool in my booth trying to
sell chairs. Dick immediately recognized the concept of sitting at eye
level with a standing prospect and he asked me about making six special
chairs for COMDEX. The idea of incorporating the clubfoot switch into
the footrest, rather than using a loose footswitch, was mine.

I never quoted Dick a price for those chairs because I surmised he
would not go ahead with the project if he knew what it would cost so,
all along, the plan was to do this for posterity. All in all, we spent
about 30 grand to make those chairs which included special tooling and
chrome plating by the same outfit that chrome plates Jay Leno's car
parts. Dick was eternally grateful for that gift and returned the
favor by letting me have, at no cost, any Pick Systems product that I
wanted. Unfortunately he did not live long enough to give me a copy of
OAv2 but perhaps someone else will come through with that.
